Pig in a Day

Posted by Carey Wood on Wednesday, November 30, 2011,

Warning:  Pictures not suitable for everyone.

On Sunday we attended a “Pig in a Day” workshop in Summerville Nova Scotia.  I (Carey) wasn’t really looking forward to it but suggested Jeff go.  He thought we should make it a “date” day and I go with him.  Olivia was off to a friends for a birthday so it worked out.

We had a nice drive over there, getting to see some of the sights, and the beautiful views along the Bay of Fundy.   We got to get a quick tour of the farm while ...

ACORN

Posted by Carey Wood on Thursday, November 17, 2011,

We spent the weekend at the ACORN (Atlantic Canada Organic Regional Conference).  It was a great opportunity to learn, network, and connect with friends.  It is a great opportunity for us to hear what other farmers are doing, what works for them and what doesn’t.

We did manage to get...

Fall clean up

Posted by Carey Wood on Thursday, November 3, 2011,

Our apologies for the delay in getting the blog updated (excluding yesterday).  Some people (but not all) seem think that as soon as the CSA is done for the season so are we.  But that is far from the truth.

We have been very busy preparing for next year, including cleaning up from this year.   We have to prepare the greenhouses for seedlings, plant garlic and other crops we can over winter.

We almost have the main garden ready to get plowed.  We have 6 rows remaining (have pulled 5 row...

CBC Island Morning Farm Day

Posted by Carey Wood on Thursday, November 3, 2011,

We hosted the CBC morning show on Friday October 28th.  It was a great experience.  We hosted as part of the PEI Young Farmers, Carey is on the executive.  Hon. George Webster, Minister of Agriculture, MLA Carolyn Bertram, Malcolm Stanley and a lot of others were here for the show.

The CSA pickup room was expanded and converted into an area large enough to host Island Morning.  It was great to have Mitch, Matt, and the crew here.

I (Carey) was interviewed and got to share our story of...
